On exactly 5 May, the endurance test that is set to run for 5 years was started. That said ā after 4 weeks, it was impossible not to go and take a look.
The test concerns breaking strength after prolonged outdoor exposure ā from 6 months up to 5 years.

This is what the HMPE looks like now:

Noticeably lighter in colour than 4 weeks ago:

It is still too early in this test to assess the effect on breaking strength, but it is clear that the effect on the coating is significant.
The breaking strength test in 5 months' time will therefore be very interesting.
Also of interest is a comparison of the different coatings. What happens to Dyneema SK75 with a gold coating? And to the T70 with a silver coating?
That will be investigated in a new test, comparing the effect of UV light ā in the form of 24-hour outdoor exposure ā on those 3 different ropes.
