A manure scraper is pulled by a rope, a steel cable or a chain. Rope is used on a drum drive installation. The difference with cable is not about rust — stainless steel cable does not rust either — but about weight, handling and what does not end up in the slurry as the rope wears.
HMPE has a density of about 0.98 g/cm³, steel about 7.85 g/cm³. A full length of rope is therefore far easier to handle during installation.
No steel wires end up in the slurry, in the pit or out on the land.
The rope stands up to the conditions in the manure alley, including frost.
On a drum drive, one station winds in while the other pays out. The system does not need to be re-tensioned.

The Dyneema® and Prorope HMPE columns differ only in price. Choosing between the two is a matter of preference, not of quality.
Both versions are 12-strand braided and coated, and available from 4 to 16 mm. We supply only high-quality HMPE and genuine Dyneema®, with no vague in-between grades. The colour tells them apart.
Choose this version if you want the brand certainty of the inventors of HMPE.
Choose this version if you want a tested, high-quality rope at the best possible price.
The price difference between the two versions comes down to the brand, not the construction.

If you are replacing an existing rope or cable, choose the same diameter as the one already in place.
For manure scrapers, 10 mm is the standard size. With a 10 mm rope the manure alley is at most 100 metres.
On a drum drive the rope runs down the alley and back again. Count twice the length of the alley, plus a margin for the attachment and for spare.

Rule of thumb for reels: 100 metres covers an alley of up to about 45 metres, 125 metres up to about 55 metres and 200 metres up to about 90 metres — margin included. The 200-metre reel is 10% cheaper. A second reel in reserve prevents downtime if the rope breaks.
Prorope tests its ropes in-house and publishes the measured values, including what such a measurement does not cover. The measurement below is about construction: a 12-strand braid against a cheap core-sheath rope. Both versions we supply are 12-strand braided.

That depends on the length of the alley, the number of runs per day, the condition of the guides and the way the rope is attached. This is why we do not put a fixed figure on it. One practical tip: a second reel in reserve prevents downtime if the rope gives way.
