What rope changes in the manure alley
A manure scraper is pulled by a rope, a steel cable or a chain. Rope is used on a drum drive installation. The difference with cable is not about rust — stainless steel cable does not rust either — but about weight, handling and what does not end up in the slurry as the rope wears.

6 to 7 times lighter than steel
HMPE has a density of about 0.98 g/cm³, steel about 7.85 g/cm³. A full length of rope is therefore far easier to handle during installation.

Two versions, one and the same construction
Both versions are 12-strand braided and coated, and available from 4 to 16 mm. We supply only high-quality HMPE and genuine Dyneema®, with no vague in-between grades. The colour tells them apart.

You can order from one metre. There is no minimum length and you only pay for what you need.
Reel of 100, 125 or 200 metres
Both versions are also available on a full reel. 125 metres is a much-requested length. The 200-metre reel is 10% cheaper than the same length by the metre.

Which diameter and how many metres you need
Three starting points for working out your size.
1. Check your drive system
Rope is used on a drum drive: two drive stations, one of which winds the rope in while the other pays it out at the same time.
A cable drive has a single station that pulls the cable back and forth via a drive wheel and works with plastic-coated steel cable. A chain drive works with a chain.
2. Choose the diameter
If you are replacing an existing rope or cable, choose the same diameter as the one already in place.
For manure scrapers, 10 mm is the standard size. With a 10 mm rope the manure alley is at most 100 metres.
3. Work out the length
On a drum drive the rope runs down the alley and back again. Count twice the length of the alley, plus a margin for the attachment and for spare.

Rule of thumb for reels: 100 metres covers an alley of up to about 45 metres, 125 metres up to about 55 metres and 200 metres up to about 90 metres — margin included. The 200-metre reel is 10% cheaper. A second reel in reserve prevents downtime if the rope breaks.

We test in-house and publish the measurements
Prorope tests its ropes in-house and publishes the measured values, including what such a measurement does not cover. The measurement below is about construction: a 12-strand braid against a cheap core-sheath rope. Both versions we supply are 12-strand braided.

- In-house measurements on a limited number of samples; there is no guarantee that every batch reaches the same value.
- A tensile test says nothing about wear in the alley, about the attachment to the scraper and the drum, or about prolonged loading.

Both versions are 12-strand braided and coated, and both stand up to slurry, ammonia and frost. Only the brand differs, and with it the price per metre. The colour helps you tell them apart: gold-yellow for Dyneema®, blue for Prorope HMPE.
How long does a scraper rope last?
That depends on the length of the alley, the number of runs per day, the condition of the guides and the way the rope is attached. This is why we do not put a fixed figure on it. One practical tip: a second reel in reserve prevents downtime if the rope gives way.
Can I order a full reel?
Yes. Both versions are available on a reel of 100, 125 or 200 metres. The 125-metre reel is a much-requested length. The 200-metre reel is 10% cheaper.
