Why Prorope pleated blind cord?
A broken or stretched cord does not mean you need a new blind. With a new cord your pleated or cellular blind hangs straight again, for a fraction of the price.
Which cord suits your pleated blind, fly screen door or Venetian blind?
Not every blind needs the same cord. Choose what you want to repair and see straight away which cord works best.
Cord for pleated blinds
Is your pleated blind hanging crooked, dropping by itself or has a cord snapped? Usually only the cord is worn. This polyester cord is hollow braided and exactly 0.8 mm thick, so it runs smoothly through the holes in the pleats.
- Hard-wearing and UV-resistant, even for blinds in the sun
- Low stretch, so your blind stays at the height you set it
- In black, white and light grey, to match most frames
Our advice: this cord is the right choice for standard pleated window blinds.
Cord for cellular (honeycomb) blinds
A cellular (honeycomb) blind uses the same thin cord as a standard pleated blind. The cord runs hidden through the cells, so a light colour shows least.
- 0.8 mm fits through the holes of most cellular blinds
- White or light grey barely shows through the fabric
- One reel is enough for several blinds
Our advice: this cord for standard cellular blinds. Is your blind large and heavy, or has the old cord snapped before? Then choose 0.9 mm Dyneema with white sheath (±58 kg), if it fits through the holes.
Stabilising cord for a pleated fly screen door: choose Dyneema
For a pleated fly screen door we specifically do not recommend this polyester cord. The stabilising cords of a screen door are under constant tension and slide through the guides every time you open and close it. Polyester can stretch, so the door starts to hang crooked or no longer closes straight.
- 0.8 mm Dyneema with black sheath: measured at ±52 kg, more than twice as strong
- The Dyneema core hardly stretches, so the door stays taut and straight
- Hard-wearing polyester sheath for daily sliding through the guides
- Order by the metre, always in one piece
Our advice: 0.8 mm Dyneema with black sheath for most screen doors. If you have a white frame and 0.9 mm fits, choose 0.9 mm with white sheath (±58 kg).
Venetian blinds: use blind cord
Venetian blinds usually use a thicker pull and lift cord than a pleated blind. A 0.8 mm cord is too thin for them: it does not hold properly in the cord lock and wears faster.
- Blind cord from 1.2 to 2.5 mm in white and black
- On 50 or 200-metre reels
- Measure the thickness of your old cord and choose the same size
Our advice: is the old cord thicker than 1 mm? Then you need blind cord, not pleated blind cord.
Outdoor sun shading: choose HMPE cord
Outdoor screens, folding-arm awnings and shading under a patio cover have a lot to endure: sun, rain, wind and plenty of weight. A thin pleated blind cord is not made for that.
- HMPE cord with polyester sheath, 2 to 5 mm
- Strong, UV-resistant and does not absorb water
- Hardly stretches, so your shading stays taut
Our advice: for anything that hangs outdoors and carries weight, choose a sheathed HMPE cord.
Pleated blind cord or Dyneema? All thin cords side by side
All breaking strengths for the pleated blind cord and Dyneema come from our own tensile tests, not from the packaging.

How to replace the cord of your pleated blind
With a little patience you can do it yourself in about half an hour. Ideally work with the blind flat on a table.
- Record the route
Take photos of how the old cord runs, at the clamps, the bottom rail and the top.
- Measure the length
Measure the old cord and add 30 to 50 cm for tying and adjusting.
- Use the old cord
Attach the new cord to the old one, for example with a piece of tape, and pull it through the holes that way.
- Fix and adjust
Secure the cord in the clamps or with a knot and adjust the tension until the blind hangs straight.
- Finish the ends
Briefly melt polyester ends with a lighter so they do not fray.
Good to know
Choose the colour of your frame or fabric. Not sure with a light blind? Light grey is often the least noticeable.
Dyneema is slippery. Tie a double knot and pull it really tight, otherwise it can slip loose under tension.
Dyneema is tough. Cut it with sharp scissors or a sharp blade; blunt scissors fray the core.
Keep operating cords out of children’s reach and use a cord cleat or child-safe control where the blind has one.
Frequently asked questions about pleated blind cord
Which cord do I need for my pleated fly screen door?
For a pleated fly screen door we recommend 0.8 mm Dyneema with black sheath (measured at ±52 kg). It is more than twice as strong as polyester pleated blind cord and hardly stretches, so the door stays straight. With a white frame you can choose 0.9 mm Dyneema with white sheath, if it fits through the guides.
How much cord do I need?
Measure the old cord and add 30 to 50 cm. In practice, a 50-metre reel lets you restring several pleated or cellular blinds.
How strong is this cord?
On our own tensile test bench it averaged 0.20 kN, about 21 kg (ISO 2307:2019, 5 measurements). That is more than enough for pleated and cellular window blinds. Read the full test.
Can I use this cord outdoors?
The polyester is UV-resistant, so it is fine for a pleated blind in a conservatory or behind glass. For outdoor sun shading exposed to wind and weather, choose HMPE cord with polyester sheath.
