Cime per verricello

(5 prodotti)

Synthetic vs steel

Synthetic winch rope instead of steel

HMPE and Dyneema® SK75/SK78 weigh a fraction of steel cable, float, and give much less recoil than steel on break — not zero, but safer because it is rope, not flying steel pieces. Choose diameter and length for drum and WLL — not for marketing numbers.

WeightUp to 85% lighterLighter spooling, faster work on 4×4 and boat.
RecoilMuch lessNot zero — but far safer: rope instead of flying steel pieces.
BuoyancyFloatsHMPE/Dyneema ≈ 0.98 g/cm³ — steel sinks.
CorrosionNo rustSalt, moisture, mud — no splinters.

Buying guide

Diameter, length & finish

Four steps to choose the right winch rope — without exceeding the WLL of your winch.

01 · Diameter

Match drum & WLL

Choose diameter for the drum groove and the WLL of your winch — not for marketing MBL. Product pages show the manufacturer rating; measured HMPE reference is below.

02 · Length

Drum capacity first

Longer rope = more layers on the drum. Check your winch capacity; extend with winch ropes (extensions).

03 · Finish

Hook or eye

Ready-to-use winch ropes with hook for recovery; stainless eyes on extensions. Softshackle as the connection instead of a bow shackle.

04 · Reading strength

WLL ≠ MBL ≠ measured

WLL = working load · MBL = minimum breaking load (manufacturer) · measured (Otto) = what we pulled ourselves. Never mix them up.

Types

SK75, T70 or Prorope HMPE

Three UHMWPE routes. Dyneema® only for genuine SK75/SK78; otherwise HMPE.

SK75

Dyneema® SK75 — yellow, high abrasion resistance

Genuine Avient fibres. The pick for intensive winch work and 4×4. We only say Dyneema® for real SK75/SK78.

T70 Hawkline

Soft, flexible, keenly priced

UHMWPE class comparable to SK75, softer construction. Easier to splice. Ideal for standard winch work.

Prorope HMPE

UHMWPE performance, sharper priced

Technically nearly identical to SK75. No Dyneema brand name — but measured in our lab (e.g. 4 mm 1,827 kg).

Our test bench

Measured HMPE reference

Only measured (Otto) — Otto Tromm, Beringe · protocol based on ISO 2307:2019 · min. 5 pulls · 50 kN. Reference HMPE for winch class; product SKUs 6–16 mm: check the manufacturer rating on the product page.

Companion

Add a softshackle

A softshackle replaces the bow shackle: light, quiet, no edges that damage the rope. Pair it with your winch rope for recovery on 4×4 or boat.

Safety

Short & clear

Respect the WLL

Work within the working load of winch and rope. MBL / measured kg are not a usage limit.

Inspect before every pull

Wear, coating, splices, hook. Replace if in doubt — no guarantee against injury.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about winch ropes

SK75, T70 or HMPE for the winch?

SK75: highest abrasion resistance (yellow, genuine Dyneema®). T70: more flexible. HMPE: same UHMWPE class, sharper priced. Dyneema® only for genuine SK75/SK78.

Why synthetic instead of steel cable?

Lighter, floats, no rust, much less recoil than steel on break — not yet minimal, but less dangerous because it is rope, not flying steel pieces. Steel stays heavy and has snap-back risk.

What is the difference between WLL, MBL and measured kg?

WLL = working load (usage limit). MBL = minimum breaking strength per manufacturer. Measured (Otto) = what we pulled on our own bench. Never use MBL/measured as WLL.

Are all kg on this page measured?

Yes — only the HMPE/SK78 reference rows in the table. Diameter tables on product pages can be manufacturer ratings; check the label.

Can I extend?

Yes — see winch extensions with stainless eyes (in winch ropes). Softshackle as the connection instead of a bow shackle.
