Why choose Prorope HMPE rope?
HMPE replaces steel cable and polyester rope wherever weight, stretch and rust get in the way. From just €0.99 per metre.
What will you use the HMPE rope for?
Choose your application. See why HMPE works there, which diameter fits and what it costs.
HMPE rope as winch rope
A steel winch cable is heavy, stiff and full of broken wires that cut your hands. HMPE is 7 to 8 times lighter, supple and safe to handle with bare hands.
- Far less recoil than steel cable if it breaks
- No kinks, no broken wires sticking out
- Floats, so it also works for recoveries through water and mud
- Damaged end? Splice a new eye and carry on
Our advice: choose a breaking strength of at least 2× your winch’s pulling capacity. For most 4x4 winches that means 10 mm.
Switching from steel? Replace a rough fairlead or drum with one free of burrs, ideally an aluminium hawse fairlead. Spool the first layers on under tension.

HMPE rope as winch extension line
Anchor point just out of reach? An HMPE extension line adds 25 to 50 metres of reach without adding weight to your vehicle. We supply it ready to use, with a spliced eye and stainless steel thimble at both ends.
- Brummel splice with a long bury of 70× the diameter
- Stainless steel 304 thimbles protect the eye against wear
- Available in 8, 10 and 12 mm and in 25, 30 or 50 metres
- So light you can always keep it on board
Ready to use from €73.95
Our advice: choose the same diameter as your winch rope, or one size up. Breaking strength including splices: 8 mm 4,900 kg, 10 mm 7,500 kg, 12 mm 9,700 kg.
Need a different length or diameter? Custom lines are possible, with a lead time of 1 to 2 weeks. Or order loose rope by the metre below.
HMPE rope as manure scraper rope
Manure and ammonia eat away at steel cable. It rusts, frays and snaps, usually at the worst possible moment. HMPE doesn't suffer from any of that: it doesn't rust, doesn't rot and never needs greasing.
- Resistant to manure, ammonia and most cleaning agents
- Light and supple, so replacing it is quick and cut-free
- Low stretch: your scraper responds instantly, with no slack
- Ordered by the metre and delivered in one piece, cut to the length of your barn
Our advice: 8 mm is a popular choice. Not sure? Check the diameter of your current cable and pulleys, or email us your system type.
HMPE rope for tree felling
When you pull a tree over with a winch or tractor, every metre you take in should count. HMPE stretches 4% at most: the tree moves, not the rope. And even a long length is easy to carry into the woods.
- Low stretch for controlled pulling
- Light enough to carry long lengths
- Available with a professional splice at both ends
Our advice: 12 to 16 mm, depending on the pulling force of your winch or tractor.
HMPE is a pulling rope. For lowering (rigging) sections with heavy shock loads, use a rope with more stretch. A Tirfor works with its own specified steel cable.

HMPE rope for offshore and marine use
On the water, every kilo counts. HMPE floats, absorbs hardly any water and is 7 to 8 times lighter than steel. That makes work on deck faster and safer.
- Resistant to salt water, oil and most chemicals
- Floats, so a line over the side won't sink
- PU coating against wear on deck and over rollers
Our advice: 12 to 16 mm. For large volumes or fixed lengths, we’ll prepare a tailored quote.
Which HMPE rope diameter is right for you?
Pick a diameter to see its breaking strength, price per metre and what it’s suited for.
Choose your diameter
- Breaking strength
- 10,500 kg
- Price per metre
- €3.50
Winches up to approx. 5,200 kg pulling force (±11,500 lbs), most 4x4 winches.
Better value per reel 10% off
200 m reel for €630, that’s €3.15 per metre.
Breaking strength is not a working load limit. Winch advice is based on 2× the pulling force; always follow your winch manufacturer’s instructions. The 4 mm value is an average from our own tensile test.
Tested in-house for breaking strength
We test our rope ourselves on our tensile test bench and publish the results in our rope test database. So you know exactly what you’re buying.
Ready-made with spliced eyes
Prefer a line with eyes straight away? The winch extension line has a spliced eye with a stainless steel thimble at both ends. Other sizes are made to order.
Need the very strongest?
Dyneema SK75 is braided from original Dyneema fibre and offers the highest breaking strength per diameter.
Get the most out of your HMPE rope
Burrs and sharp edges on drums, fairleads or pulleys damage synthetic rope.
HMPE is slippery. Knots can slip and cost a lot of strength; a splice doesn’t.
HMPE loses strength at high temperatures and melts at around 145 °C. Take care with winches whose brake heats up the drum.
HMPE can also recoil if it breaks, although far less violently than steel.
Frequently asked questions
Which diameter do I need for my winch?
Rule of thumb: the breaking strength should be at least 2× your winch’s pulling capacity. That gives 8 mm for up to approx. 3,400 kg (±7,500 lbs), 10 mm up to approx. 5,200 kg (±11,500 lbs) and 12 mm up to approx. 6,700 kg (±14,800 lbs). Always check your winch manufacturer’s instructions too.
What is the difference from Dyneema SK75?
Both are made from UHMWPE fibre: strong, light and resistant to water and corrosion. SK75 is braided from original Dyneema fibre and has the highest breaking strength per diameter. Prorope HMPE is the strong alternative at a sharper price.
Is HMPE rope safer than steel cable?
HMPE has no sharp wires, is much lighter and recoils far less violently than steel cable if it breaks. Always keep clear when it’s under tension, though.
Can I order the rope with eyes?
Yes. The winch extension line comes ready to use with a spliced eye and stainless steel thimble at both ends, in 8, 10 and 12 mm and 25, 30 or 50 metres. Other lengths and diameters are made to order, with a lead time of 1 to 2 weeks.
How do I order the right length?
The quantity in your cart is the number of metres. By the metre, we supply up to 200 metres in one piece; order 270 metres and you’ll receive 200 + 70 metres. A full reel comes as one continuous length, and at a discount: up to 10% on 8 to 14 mm and up to 40% on the 500-metre reel of 4 mm.
Found your diameter?
Order by the metre from €0.99 and receive your rope in one piece, cut to length.
