Polypropylene
Floating polypropylene rope, 4–40 mm
Prorope polypropylene rope: laid 4–40 mm in beige/manila, black or orange, and braided coreless in white, green or blue. It floats, is keenly priced and stands up well to salt and many chemicals. For long sun exposure or heavy work, prefer polyester or HMPE.
Floats
Specific gravity ca. 0.91 g/cm³ — stays afloat. Handy for marking, rescue lines and temporary water lines.
Light & budget
Low price per metre. Laid 4–40 mm in beige/manila, black and orange; braided coreless in white, green and blue.
Chemical
Good resistance to many acids/bases and salt water. Less resistant to UV and abrasive wear than polyester or HMPE.
Assortment
Our assortment
Laid rope in three colours, braided coreless rope, tug-of-war rope and packing twine — so you can choose quickly.
PP laid 4–40 mm
In beige/manila, black or orange. Sold by the metre, on a coil (±220 m) or sometimes on a reel. Thicker than 24 mm? Ask us about the coil.
Coreless 6–12 mm
White in 6, 8, 10 and 12 mm; green and blue in 6 mm. By the metre or on a 100 m reel.
Tug-of-war rope
28, 36 or 40 mm, in black or manila. Length 15, 20 or 25 m, with end splices. Made to order after purchase.
Ball of polyprop packing twine
White, 3-strand, ball of about 250 m. Handy for bundling, packing or light tying.

Honest limits
When to upgrade?
Polypropylene is cheap and floats. Choose something else for long sun exposure, heavy loads, or shock absorption.
Technical
Buoyancy & chemical properties
| Material | Polypropylene (PP) |

Choice
PP holds — or upgrade
Keep PP
Temporary lines, marking, floating uses, budget bundling, chemically mild environments without heavy UV.
To polyester
Permanent outdoor lines, sheets, mooring lines with UV exposure.
To HMPE / Dyneema
High kg, minimal stretch, winches and recovery — with measured lab data. No Dyneema claim on PP.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions about polypropylene rope
Which colours does Prorope PP come in?
Laid: beige/manila, black and orange (4–40 mm). Braided coreless: white, green and blue (white 6–12 mm; green/blue 6 mm). Packing twine: white. Tug-of-war rope: black and manila.
Which diameters for laid PP?
Beige/manila: 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 24, 28, 32, 36, 40 mm. Black: same range plus 20 mm (no 32 mm). Orange: up to 40 mm including 20 and 32 mm. Length: coil ~220 m, by the metre, sometimes reel.
Does polypropylene really float?
Yes. Specific gravity ca. 0.91 g/cm³ — lighter than water. Handy for marking and temporary water lines.
PP for winches or a hoist?
No. For winches, lifting or recovery choose HMPE or Dyneema SK75/SK78. PP lacks the strength/stretch profile and UV durability for that work.
Which lab kg are measured?
PP laid new: 6 mm 671 kg · 8 mm 1,077 kg · 10 mm 1,651 kg · 12 mm 2,399 kg. Braided coreless 6 mm: 417 kg. Trim line core/sheath: 4 mm 339 kg · 6 mm 686 kg · 8 mm 757 kg. Measured (Otto) only; no manufacturer figure in the table.
Ordered before 13:00?

Keep PP — or upgrade?
Choose polypropylene if it must float or stay cheap. For long sun exposure or high loads: polyester or HMPE. Measured values are in the test database.
