Varför detta rep ersätter er stålkabel
Ingen rost, inga brutna trådar. När PVC-manteln på en stålkabel spricker korroderar stålet osynligt tills kabeln brister.

Why Dyneema SK75 manure scrape rope goes on the drum
A steel cable in the manure alley has a use-by date: it corrodes from the inside, breaks strand by strand and leaves sharp ends where your cows walk. Dyneema SK75 is the original UHMWPE fibre from Avient and replaces that cable on every drum drive.

Manure and ammonia do nothing
UHMWPE is chemically almost inert: manure, urine, ammonia, cleaners and salts do not attack the fibre. Steel corrodes on the inside of the cable, where you do not see it coming.
Flexible in frost
The rope does not stiffen at low temperatures and no rust water freezes in the lay. If your installation makes small winter movements against freezing, the rope simply follows.
Barely absorbs water
No waterlogged rope that weighs a few kilos more by the end of winter, and nothing that can freeze in the alley.
Replace it alone
Pulling a new steel cable through is a two-person job. You pull this rope through the corner stations by hand, on your own, without a crane or tongs.
Does manure scrape rope fit your drive?
Whether rope can be used is not decided by the brand of your manure scraper, but by how your drive station moves the scraper.
Drum drive
The rope is wound onto a drum and runs through corner stations along the alley. This type of installation usually has two drive stations: one winds on while the other winds off, so the rope does not need to be kept under constant tension. This is the drive rope is designed for, and where Dyneema SK75 replaces the steel cable directly.
Chain drive
The chain runs over a sprocket or pocket wheel. A sprocket engages the links; with rope there is nothing to engage.

Five points to check before you order manure scrape rope
Rope places different demands on the alley than a steel cable. Check these five points so you know the installation will treat the rope properly.

Groove width of corner pulleys and guide eyes
A groove made for 8 or 10 mm steel cable is too narrow for thicker rope. Measure the groove, or stick to the diameter already in use.

Bend radius: at least ten times the diameter
Allow for 100 mm for 10 mm rope, 120 mm for 12 mm rope as the smallest radius. If the rope runs over a pulley or around a corner that is tighter, the braid is kinked on one side instead of being loaded evenly.

Pulleys that turn, not sliding surfaces
A seized pulley or a worn slide guide always rubs in the same spot. Frictional heat is the real risk with this fibre, not tensile load: UHMWPE starts to soften from about 125 °C and melts at about 165 °C. Replace worn pulleys at the same time.

A termination that does not crush the rope
Steel cable clamps squeeze the braid flat and create a weak point there. Use the rope fitting from your scraper manufacturer: there are fittings designed not to crush the rope and to release it easily for maintenance.

Cut-off on position sensing, not on resistance
A control that knows where the scraper is in the alley stops on position. A control that only cuts out when resistance rises first puts the whole installation under tension. That difference matters for peak load on your rope.

Choose 10 mm when:
- an 8 or 10 mm cable is currently on the drum
- it is a regular freestall barn with a normal scraping frequency
- your alley length is within your scraper manufacturer's specification (for many drum installations that limit is around 100 metres)
- the grooves of your corner pulleys are no wider than 10 mm
14,000 kg breaking strength
Choose 12 mm when:
- the alley is long or the scraper pushes a lot of heavy manure ahead of it
- you scrape on a low-emission floor and the alley must be fully clean every 1.5 to 2 hours
- a lot of bedding, straw or sand ends up in the alley
- a thicker cable is already in place
- you want margin for when the scraper snags somewhere — that is when a cable breaks, not during normal scraping
Your scraper manufacturer specifies a maximum alley length per diameter for each drive station. Follow that specification: it is decisive, not the rope's breaking strength.
How many metres should you order?
The rope runs both out and back along the alley. The reserve is for the terminations and for the wraps that always stay on the drum. If you order on a reel, round up to the next reel size.

Keep a spare length on the shelf right away. If the rope breaks on a Saturday evening, your cows walk through manure until the delivery arrives. A second reel in the workshop turns a breakdown into an hour's job.
Install manure scrape rope in four steps
Steel cable out, rope in. In practice this is a morning's work, and you can do it alone because the rope is light enough to pull through by hand.

Measure and order
Twice the alley length plus 5 to 10 metres reserve. Roll the new rope out along the alley first so you can see the length is right before you disconnect the old cable.

Use the old cable as a pull wire
Temporarily attach the new rope to the end of the old cable and pull that out. The rope then follows the same path through every corner station and guide eye.

Terminate without crushing
Use the rope fitting from your scraper manufacturer or a clamp with rounded pressure faces. Standard steel cable clamps squeeze the braid flat and create the weak point right there.

Run a few cycles and re-adjust
A new 12-strand rope settles in the first cycles: the braid tightens and the rope becomes a fraction longer. Then check the termination and the winding on the drum again.
Always follow your scraper manufacturer's installation instructions. If they differ from the above, those instructions take priority.
Maintaining manure scrape rope: what you check
Dyneema SK75 does not need greasing, oiling or preserving. It does not rust and it does not rot. What remains is looking, and knowing what to look for.
Check these periodically
- The rope at the corner stations and guide eyes — that is where the movement is
- Where the rope is attached to the scraper and to the drum
- Whether all pulleys still turn freely
- Whether bedding, sand or dried manure has built up in the grooves
- Whether the rope winds neatly side by side on the drum and does not climb over itself
Reasons to replace
- Cut-through or cut strands in one spot, usually at a guide or pulley
- A locally flattened spot at the termination
- A hard, glassy or fused spot: that points to frictional heat — find the pulley that no longer turns
- A kink that will not come out
How long a rope lasts depends on your alley, your scraping frequency and above all on the condition of your pulleys. Judge the rope visually, not by a set number of years.

Breaking strengths are the fibre manufacturer's figures and apply to the unfinished rope. If an eye or hook is spliced in, allow for roughly 10 percent less.

Dyneema SK75
The original Avient fibre, gold-yellow coated so it is immediately recognisable in the alley. In 12 mm the 14,000 kg breaking strength is the highest in our manure-scraper range. The choice if you want brand certainty and want to know exactly which fibre is on the drum.
Prorope HMPE

What exactly is Dyneema SK75?
SK75 is a type of UHMWPE fibre from Avient, the manufacturer of Dyneema. This rope is 12-strand braided from that fibre and given a gold-yellow PU coating. You are buying a fibre with a fixed, specified quality.
What is the difference with Prorope HMPE manure scrape rope?
The same fibre type, a different source and price class. Dyneema SK75 is the original brand fibre, gold-yellow and in 12 mm with the highest breaking strength in our manure-scraper range. Prorope HMPE is around half that price. Both replace a steel cable on a drum drive; the choice is yours.

How many metres of manure scrape rope do I need?
Twice the alley length plus 5 to 10 metres reserve, because the rope runs out and back along the alley and wraps always stay on the drum. A 60-metre alley therefore needs about 125 metres.
10 or 12 mm Dyneema manure scrape rope?
10 mm is the standard on most cable scrapers. Choose 12 mm for long alleys, heavy slurry, lots of bedding or sand, a high scraping frequency such as on low-emission floors, or when a thicker cable is already in place. Always follow the maximum alley length per diameter specified by your scraper manufacturer.

How do I attach the rope to the scraper and the drum?

Why do I need to watch the bend radius?

Does the rope get longer when it is new?
Yes, a little. In the first scrape cycles the 12-strand braid settles: it tightens and the rope becomes slightly longer. After a day or ten, check the termination and the winding on the drum.
Can manure, ammonia or frost damage the rope?
No. UHMWPE is chemically almost inert and does not react to manure, urine, ammonia or cleaners, and it does not stiffen in frost. What you do need to watch is heat: a pulley that no longer turns rubs in a fixed spot and the fibre softens from about 125 degrees Celsius.
Does Prorope supply the rope with a spliced eye?
