Breaking strength durability test: 4 mm Prorope HMPE/UHMWPE

A durability test is highly relevant, as information about rope performance is usually only available for new rope.

To give buyers of Prorope rope a clear picture of the quality, we want to know how much strength the rope retains after being exposed to outdoor conditions for a given period.

The rope is unused, but is exposed to:

  • rain
  • sun
  • wind
  • temperature fluctuations

The rope samples are kept outside 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. You can see this here:

Below you'll find the results:

Description Date Average breaking strength
Baseline test (new rope) May 2026 1827 kg
6 month test November 2026 coming soon
12 month test May 2027 not yet available
2 year test May 2028 not yet available
3 year test May 2029 not yet available
4 year test May 2030 not yet available
5 year test May 2031 not yet available

The average breaking strength is based on 5 individual tests. Example:
For the 6-month test, we take 5 of the 30 samples stored outside and test each one for breaking strength.
The average of these 5 tests is the value listed under "average breaking strength".

All rope samples are stored at a test site in Heibloem, the Netherlands.

Tests are carried out by Otto Tromm, who is responsible for all rope testing at Prorope.
