Description
3 mm Kevlar cord with polyester sheath is a strong, flexible and heat-resistant kernmantle cord – available per metre in black and neon. The Kevlar core delivers exceptional tensile strength with very low stretch, while the polyester sheath protects the core against the two main weaknesses of Kevlar: UV radiation and moisture.
Break strength
The two variants differ in construction, which directly affects their strength:
Black – 220 kg: core consisting of 2 twisted Kevlar strands, giving maximum compactness and strength
Neon – 162 kg: core of parallel, untwisted fibres, offering slightly lower strength but excellent flexibility
Heat resistance
This cord is thermally stable from -46°C to 160°C with minimal change in tensile strength. For extended periods, it retains its performance between 149°C and 177°C – making it the right choice wherever heat, friction or elevated temperatures are a factor.
Low stretch
Thanks to Kevlar's inherently low elongation at break (approximately 2.8–4%), this cord is ideal for precision applications where consistent tension and minimal movement under load are critical.
Protective polyester sheath
Kevlar fibres are sensitive to UV light and moisture. The polyester sheath addresses both: it blocks UV radiation, repels moisture and provides better abrasion resistance than nylon – making this 3 mm cord well suited for intensive outdoor use and rough surfaces.
