Description
Description
Made primarily for repairing (pleated) insect screens: thin enough to run through existing guides, strong enough to last for years again.
Manufacturers of this type of cord often state a breaking strength of 25 kg. We tested 0.8 mm Dyneema with polyester sheath on our tensile tester (ISO 2307:2019, 5 pulls). Average breaking strength: 0.51 kN ≈ 52 kg — more than double the factory figure. Read the full test: 0.8 mm Dyneema with polyester sheath — breaking strength test.
The core is pre-stretched Dyneema (HMPE): stronger than steel on a weight-for-weight basis, does not absorb water and keeps its strength when wet. Over the core sits a black, 32-plait polyester sheath. It protects against abrasion and UV, gives more grip than slick bare Dyneema, and makes the cord slightly stiffer — useful when pulling it back through a screen.
Why this cord works for insect screens
-0.8 mm diameter: fits most pleated and insect-screen mechanisms
-High breaking strength for such a fine line (≈ 52 kg measured)
-Abrasion-resistant sheath: better suited to repeated travel in guides
-Easier to handle than unsleeved Dyneema
-For indoor use: also UV-resistant outdoors
Also suitable for indoor blinds, kite and model work, or other light precision jobs — but the main use is repairing and renewing insect-screen cords.

Why buy rope from Prorope?
We don't just sell rope, we test it ourselves. So you know what you are buying and you choose the right rope for the job, without guessing based on a number on the packaging.
How we test our rope
All breaking strength tests are carried out by Otto Tromm in our own test lab. We follow ISO 2307:2019 as closely as possible, the most recent standard for testing fibre rope.
- Our own test bench
A 50 kN universal tensile testing machine with rope clamps, so we can test rope without splicing it first.
- The right brackets
Bollard brackets of at least 10× the rope diameter. With two bracket sets we choose the right one for each rope.
- Multiple measurements
We test every rope several times, usually 5 times, at a speed of 20 mm per minute.
- Filmed and recorded
We film the first tests and note how the rope breaks: all at once or in stages, with a loud or a soft snap.
- Published openly
Every test goes into our database and a test report. Including the disappointing ones.
We also test how rope ages outdoors, with long-running UV and weather tests of up to 5 years. Read how we test and publish or find your rope in the test database.
Breaking strength is not a working load
Breaking strength is the point at which new rope breaks in a test. In practice, knots, wear, shock loads and weather all play a part. So always keep a generous margin.
A knot weakens rope considerably. In our test, 3 mm HMPE with a sheath kept less than half of its strength with a knot.
Chafing over a sharp edge, a burred eyelet or a stiff pulley wears rope faster than you think. Protect the rope in those places.
A jerk or a gust of wind creates a peak load much higher than the weight itself. For shock loads, choose a stronger rope.
Do you see fraying, flat spots, discolouration or a damaged sheath? Replace the rope, especially if it carries weight.
Order the way that suits you
Whether you are doing a single repair or buying rope for your business: we supply what you need.
By the metre
Order exactly the length you need. We supply up to 200 metres in one piece.
By the reel
A full reel is one continuous length and often cheaper per metre. Handy if you need rope more often.

How reliable are your breaking strengths?
We measure them ourselves, on our own test bench and following ISO 2307:2019 as closely as possible. We test every rope several times and publish the average, the spread and our observations. They are still measurements on new rope with a limited number of samples, so use them as a guideline and keep a margin.
Has this rope been tested yet?
Search by material and diameter in our rope test database. Not there yet? We are constantly testing new ropes. Need the breaking strength now? Email info@prorope.com.
Which rope do I need for my job?
Email us what you are using the rope for, what weight or force it will carry and which diameter you are looking for. We will give you honest advice, even if a different rope suits you better.
When will my order be shipped?
Order before 13:00 on a working day and we ship the same day, if the item is in stock. Orders placed at the weekend go out on Monday. Custom work, such as a spliced eye, is ready within 1 to 2 days.
Can I have rope made to measure?
Yes. Think of a spliced eye, a fixed length or a special finish. We make custom work within 1 to 2 days. Request a free quote.
