Why a Dyneema winch rope instead of steel?
Ready to fit: genuine Dyneema SK75, spliced and fitted with the matching hook. From your quad's winch to your tractor's, from €44.95.
Which winch do you have? How to choose your Dyneema winch rope
Pick your type of winch. See which diameter fits, what it costs and what to look out for when you switch.
Dyneema winch rope for your 4x4 winch
A steel winch cable is heavy, kinks and after a few recoveries is full of broken wires that cut your hands. A Dyneema winch rope is supple, light and safe to handle, even with wet hands in the mud.
- Far less recoil than steel cable if it breaks
- No kinks and no broken wires sticking out
- Floats, so it works for recoveries through water
- Less weight on the front of your vehicle
Our advice: choose a breaking strength of at least 2× your winch's pulling capacity. A 9,500 lbs winch (±4,300 kg) needs 10 mm, a 12,000 lbs winch (±5,450 kg) needs 12 mm.
Switching from steel? Steel leaves burrs on the drum and fairlead. Smooth them or replace them, and use a smooth hawse fairlead instead of a roller fairlead.
Dyneema winch rope for quads, ATVs and UTVs
On a small winch the drum is small and every metre counts. The 6 mm Dyneema winch rope is thin, supple and holds 3.3 tonnes, so more length fits on your drum than with a comparable steel cable.
- 3.3 tonnes breaking strength at 6 mm, including hook
- Small hook with safety latch, 1.4 t working load
- Light enough to pull out with one hand
Our advice: 6 mm for winches up to approx. 1,650 kg pulling capacity (±3,600 lbs), which covers most quad and ATV winches. Heavier UTV winch up to approx. 2,700 kg (±5,950 lbs)? Go for 8 mm.
Dyneema winch rope for tractor and forestry winches
Nobody enjoys dragging a long steel cable into the woods. Dyneema is so light that you pull out 40 metres without effort, and with a maximum of 4% stretch every metre your winch hauls in goes straight to the trunk.
- Controlled pulling thanks to the low stretch
- No rust from wet timber, rain or manure
- Large hook with safety latch, 4.0 t working load
Our advice: 12 mm for winches up to approx. 6,300 kg pulling capacity, 14 mm up to approx. 8,100 kg. For heavier winches there's 16 mm.
Need more than 40 metres, or a different hook? We make the winch rope in any length, with a lead time of 1 to 2 days. Splicing it yourself? Then loose Dyneema SK75 by the metre is better value.
Anchor point too far away? Then you don't need this rope
Is your current winch rope still fine and are you just short of length? Don't replace it, extend it. The Prorope HMPE winch extension line has a spliced eye with stainless steel thimble at both ends, which you connect to your hook with a soft shackle.
- Brummel splice with a long bury of 70× the diameter
- Stainless steel 304 thimbles protect the eye against wear
- Available in 8, 10 and 12 mm and in 25, 30 or 50 metres
- Light enough to always keep on board
Our advice: choose the same diameter as your winch rope, or one size up. Breaking strength including splices: 8 mm 4,900 kg, 10 mm 7,500 kg, 12 mm 9,700 kg.

4x4 winches up to approx. 4,500 kg pulling capacity (±9,900 lbs), such as the common 9,500 lbs winches.
Medium hook with safety latch, 2.5 t working load.
That's €7.70 per metre, spliced and including hook.
Breaking strength is not a working load. Winch advice is based on 2× the pulling capacity; always follow your winch manufacturer's instructions. The hook only breaks at 6× its working load.
Ready-made Dyneema winch rope, or loose rope?
Not everyone needs the same rope. Here are the options, honestly side by side.

Breaking strength after the hook
A spliced eye costs roughly 10% of the rope's strength. That's why the breaking strengths on this page apply to the rope after the hook is fitted: what you get, not what the loose rope achieves.
Any length
Doesn't 10 to 40 metres fit your drum? We splice the winch rope to the length you need. Lead time 1 to 2 days.
Winch safely
Lay a winch damper or a heavy blanket over the line while winching. It absorbs the whip if something does break.
How to spool your Dyneema winch rope onto the winch
- Check drum and fairlead
Steel cable leaves burrs and sharp edges. Smooth them or replace them; use a smooth hawse fairlead.
- Attach to the drum
As your winch manufacturer prescribes, and always leave the prescribed number of wraps on the drum.
- Spool on under light tension
This lets the twelve strands settle so the rope shares the load evenly. It also stops the rope pulling down between the lower layers.
- No sharp bends
Keep a bend radius of at least 10× the diameter and use a tree strap or soft shackle around your anchor point.
- Damper on, stand clear
Lay a damper over the line and stay out of the line of the rope while it's under tension.
How to make your Dyneema winch rope last
Dyneema softens from 125–130 °C. Take care with winches whose brake heats the drum, and never let the rope rub against anything under load.
Dyneema is slippery. A knot can slip and costs a lot of strength; a splice doesn't.
If the rope runs over a rock or sharp edge, put a protective sleeve or blanket in between.
Look for hardened or glazed spots and damaged strands. In doubt, replace the rope.
Frequently asked questions about the Dyneema winch rope
Which diameter do I need for my winch?
Rule of thumb: the breaking strength is at least 2× your winch's pulling capacity. That gives 6 mm up to approx. 1,650 kg, 8 mm up to approx. 2,700 kg, 10 mm up to approx. 4,500 kg (±9,900 lbs), 12 mm up to approx. 6,300 kg (±13,900 lbs) and 14 mm up to approx. 8,100 kg. Always follow your winch manufacturer's instructions too.
Does the breaking strength include the hook?
Yes. The breaking strengths apply to the rope after the hook is fitted. The hook itself has a working load (SWL) of 1.4 t (6 mm), 2.5 t (8 and 10 mm) or 4.0 t (12 mm and up) and only breaks at 6× that value.
Can I get a different length or a different hook?
Yes. We make the winch rope in any length and can splice on a different hook or an eye. Request a quote; the lead time for custom work is 1 to 2 days.
Do I need to modify my winch when switching from steel?
Usually just the fairlead. A roller fairlead and a drum with burrs from the old steel cable damage synthetic rope. Use a smooth hawse fairlead and smooth the drum before you spool on the Dyneema rope.
What's the difference with Dyneema T70 Hawkline?
T70 has the same breaking strength as SK75, but is slightly less abrasion-resistant and is sold loose by the metre, without hook or splice. The SK75 winch rope comes ready to fit: spliced, with hook and ready to spool onto your winch.
