Description
Description
If you enjoy sailing, high-quality sheet lines are indispensable. These Prorope sheets are specifically engineered for performance, durability, and ease of use.
Construction and Material
These lines are manufactured from 100% high-grade polyester, featuring a braided polyester core and a spun polyester cover (sheath).
Superior Grip: The spun polyester finish provides significantly more grip compared to standard polyester, performing exceptionally well in both wet and dry conditions.
Cotton Feel, Technical Strength: While it offers the soft, comfortable feel of traditional cotton, it retains the high abrasion resistance and weatherproofing of modern polyester.
Ergonomic Design: This version is ideal for manual handling, offering the tactile control required for precision trimming.
Key Advantages of Prorope Sheet Lines:
Low Moisture Absorption: Remains light and manageable even when wet.
Low Stretch: Ensures consistent sail trim and responsiveness.
UV Resistant: Built to withstand prolonged exposure to sunlight and salt.
High Breaking Strength: Reliable performance under heavy loads.
Excellent Abrasion Resistance: Long-lasting durability against friction and wear.
Core-and-Cover Construction: Ensures a stable, firm, and round shape for smooth running through blocks and cleats.
Technical Specifications
Available Diameters: 6 mm, 8 mm, 10 mm, 12 mm, and 16 mm.

Why this sheet line?
A spun polyester cover over a braided polyester core. Feels like cotton, grips like cotton, but lasts for years on the water. From €0.60 per metre.
What will you use the sheet line for?
Pick your application. You will see why this line works there, which diameter fits and when something else is the better choice.
Sheet line for jib, genoa and mainsail
You handle a sheet all day: hauling in, easing out and at every tack. Standard filament polyester is slippery and cuts into your hands when wet. This spun cover feels soft and keeps its grip.
- Soft in the hand, even without sailing gloves
- Low stretch, so your sail stays trimmed
- Core-and-cover construction: stays round and runs smoothly through blocks and clutches
- Red or blue tracer, so you can tell your lines apart on board
Advice: as a rule of thumb 8 mm for dinghies and boats up to 6 metres, 10 mm up to 9 metres, 12 mm up to 12 metres and 14 or 16 mm above that. Above all, check what fits your clutches and blocks.
Measure your old sheet and add a few metres. A sheet that is slightly too long can be cut; one that is too short cannot.
Sheet line as halyard or control line
For halyards, downhauls, reefing lines and control lines on smaller boats this line does the job well: strong, supple and pleasant to handle.
- Good for dinghies, open boats and cruising yachts
- Thin sizes (6 and 8 mm) for reefing, control and downhaul lines
- White with tracer: looks neat on board
Advice: larger boat, or want a halyard that hardly stretches under load? Choose a line with a Dyneema core, such as the Liros XTR Racer. It stretches far less than polyester.
Mooring: choose a rope with stretch
Honest advice: this sheet line is not the best choice for mooring lines. The low stretch that makes it a good sheet causes hard snatches on your cleats and bollards when the swell picks up.
- Nylon stretches and absorbs the shocks: the classic choice for mooring lines
- PPMF is light, floats and is affordable, handy for a line that may end up in the water
- This sheet line does work as a spring line or a line you handle a lot
Advice: for mooring lines, braided nylon or three-strand PPMF. Unsure about the diameter? Email us your boat's length and weight.
Which sheet line diameter do you need?
Pick a diameter. You will see the breaking strength, the price per metre and what it is suitable for.
Choose your diameter
- Breaking strength
- 1,236 kg
- Price per metre
- €1.50
Sheets on boats of about 6 to 9 metres.
Better value per reel
Breaking strength is not a working load. Values are averages for new rope without a knot; a knot costs over 40% of the strength. Diameter advice per boat length is a rule of thumb.
Tested for breaking strength in-house
We pull our sheet lines to breaking point on our own tensile bench, five times per diameter, and publish the averages. So you know what you have on board.
A knot costs 40% of the strength
In our knot test, 8 mm with a knot broke at just 441 kg instead of 770 kg. Close to the limit? Go one size up or have an eye spliced.
Even stronger, even less stretch?
The Liros XTR Racer has a Dyneema SK78 core with an aramid/polyester cover. For racing sailors and larger yachts.
Make your sheet line last longer
Heat-seal the ends or add a whipping, otherwise the cover will fray back.
Salt crystals stiffen the line and abrade the fibres. A rinse with fresh water helps.
Burrs on blocks, clutches or the hull wear the cover. Keep contact points smooth.
A sheet wears in the same spot in the clutch. Turn it end for end now and then and it will last longer.
Frequently asked questions
Which sheet line diameter do I need?
As a rule of thumb: 8 mm for dinghies and boats up to 6 metres, 10 mm up to 9 metres, 12 mm up to 12 metres and 14 or 16 mm above that. Most important is that the line fits your clutches, blocks and winch. If in doubt, measure your current line.
What is the difference between the red and blue tracer?
Only the colour of the tracer; construction and price per metre are the same. Handy for telling lines apart on board, for example jib and main sheet. Choose the colour above. Blue is also available in 14 mm and on 100 m reels in 8 and 10 mm.
Why does this line feel different from standard polyester rope?
The cover is spun polyester: short fibres instead of long smooth filaments. That makes it feel soft, almost like cotton, and keeps its grip when wet. The braided polyester core provides strength and low stretch.
Can I tie a knot in it?
Yes, but a knot costs strength. In our test, 6 mm with a knot broke at 302 kg and 8 mm at 441 kg, versus 548 and 770 kg without a knot. For heavily loaded points, a splice or one size up is wiser.
How do I order the right length?
The quantity in your cart is the number of metres, and you receive them in one piece. Up to 100 metres we deliver on a reel; longer single lengths on request. Rope cut to length is excluded from the right of withdrawal.
