Description
Description
Kevlar cord with polyester sheath combines the extreme tensile strength of aramid with the abrasion resistance of a braided polyester outer sheath. The aramid core delivers minimal stretch and high break strength, while the sheath protects the core against chafing and UV radiation. Available in 1.5, 2, 3 and 4 mm, orderable per metre.
Properties of kevlar cord with polyester sheath
-Aramid core with minimal stretch under load
-Protective polyester sheath against abrasion and UV
-Heat resistant
-Does not rot and absorbs virtually no moisture
-Custom cut, available per metre
Break strength of kevlar cord per diameter
The values below are not taken from the manufacturer's datasheet, but measured on our own 50 kN tensile tester — five pull tests per rope, in accordance with ISO 2307:2019.
| Diameter | Break strength | Application | Test |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1.5 mm | 107 kg | Mini cranes, model building, precision lifting | Test database |
| 2 mm | 117 kg | Guy lines, suspension systems | View test |
| 3 mm black | 220 kg | Heavy-duty suspension, industrial | View test |
| 3 mm neon yellow | 162 kg | Visibility, signalling | View test |
| 4 mm | 302 kg | Lifting applications, construction | Test database |
Which diameter kevlar cord do you need?
Choose diameter based on load, not gut feeling. As a rule of thumb, use a safety factor of 5 for static use and 10 for dynamic or shock loads. Also keep in mind that a knot significantly reduces break strength. Not sure? Email info@prorope.com — we're happy to help you figure it out.
Looking for maximum strength and UV isn't a factor? Pure kevlar 3 mm hits 596 kg — nearly three times as much as the same diameter with a sheath.
